Week 3

Hello Ladies and welcome to week 3 of your Pathways to Retail Course.

This week we had a good look at Customer Relations with the use of a couple of videos and a workshop booklet. These photos show an activity we ejnoyed where we had to use excellent listening skills to take an order on the telephone.

If you were unable to attend this workshop, don't worry, you can still catch up. Click here to get the workbook and borrow the video "The Art of Customer Relations" Call Number: 685.812BUSI from the TAFE library. Watch the video and answer the questions. Hand it in as soon as you can and we'll get your marks up on the grid with everybody else's.

Looking forward to another exciting week.

Week 2

Hello Ladies,

Welcome to week 2 of your Retail and Customer Service Course. In today's class, we discussed the importance of Quality Customer Service in the community. We had a look at what positive customer service looks like and some of the causes of poor customer service. To top the morning off, everyone went off to catch some of TAFE staff in the act of performing quality customer service. Some of you went to the library, some went to the canteen and others visited the administrative offices. The reports were great to read. Thank you everyone for your enthusiastic cooperation.

If you missed this class, don't worry: You can still participate in the observation activity by clicking this link and following instructions. Please make sure to hand it in as soon as possible so that you will remain up-to-date with your work.

In the afternoon computing class, we opened the profiles that we had created in Week 1. We shared the photos I took of everyone on my iPhone and you learned how to save them to your USB and then to insert those images into your profile. We reviewed the ergonomics of your chairs and periferals and had a great stretch to avoid physical stress from prolonged computer use. Finally, we saved the Profiles back to the USB so we can work on them again next week.

And speaking of next week, here is a bit of what you can expect:

  • We will be seeking refuge from the cold in the library as we study Customer Service using a couple of videos and Q&A booklets

  • We will activate your usernames and passwords for the internet and I will introduce you to the internet.

  • We will use Google to find a photograph on the internet and you will save it to disk so that you can insert it to your profiles.

I can't wait to get started.

See you soon,

LiZzY

Welcome! :-)

Hello and Welcome,

As promised, this is your BLOG for TAFE 'Pathways to Retail and Customer Service' Class. If you made it as far as this page, you've taken a huge leap in your computer class and I congratulate you.

The 5 Units you will be studying with me on Wednesdays are as follows:

  1. Work effectively in a retail environment

  2. Communicate with customers in a range of contexts

  3. Plan a short project

  4. Prepare for word processing

  5. Access and use the internet

We need to bring the following items to class:

  • Pens

  • Paper (loose leaf is best)

  • USB (just a cheap one about one gig in size would be fine)

  • Portfolio (a 20 page display book is ideal)

  • Bring your questions about computers so we can discuss them in class.

We will be meeting in E.G.19 in the mornings for the time being, and in E.1.1 in the afternoons.

The session times you decided on are as follows:

9:00 to 10:00 Session 1
10:00 to 10:30 Break
10:30 to 12:00 Session 2
12:00 to 12:30 Lunch
12:20 to 2:30 Session 3
Most people didn't want one, but an afternoon break can be taken when needed.

If you weren't able to get to the first class, here's what you missed:

  • We unexpectedly merged with a whole other class and together we enjoyed a very useful tour of the library and a very windy, rainy tour of the campus.

  • We decided on our class boundaries and managed to secure a computer room for the afternoon.

  • Murray from the Student Association came to give us a talk about the benefits of membership.

  • We began our classes with Student Assessment Guides and a course overview and then hooked right in to our first assignment. Starting with the basics of how to adjust our chairs for optimum ergonomic benefit and adjusting our periferals to the computer, we quickly moved on to the difference between hardware and software and the operating systems that support our programs. Next, we learned how to use windows and how to open, save and edit a Microsoft Word document. Not bad for a first day. I took photos of everyone on my iPhone and we transferred them to USBs so you can insert them into your profile.

Everyone took turns writing the class boundaries on the board, here is what you came up with:

  • Respectful Listening

  • Solve the problems

  • Don't be shy

  • Support each other

  • Come to the class on time

  • Be happy :-)

  • Cooperate with joy (this one got a big clap)

  • Do your homework

I look forward to working with you, getting to know you and reading your posts.

Very Sincerely,

Elizabeth Johnson
